Poster and billboard for World Breast Cancer Day 2007

By Ángel Domínguez

It was the last quarter of 2007, and a special opportunity arose; it meant collaborating with the AECC - Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer (Spanish Association Against Cancer), which was organizing a fashion show for the World Breast Cancer Day in which the models would be women who had overcome breast cancer; as a company, we had been wanting to participate in these kind of pro bono projects, so we accepted and got to work.

There were two pieces to design: an A3-sized promotional poster to distribute throughout the city, and a large billboard, 2.5 meters high by 5 meters long, which would act as a backdrop for the catwalk.

This work involved a good deal of digging to find the logotypes of the sponsors, some of which had to be traced or redrawn. Another problem when completing a project at such short notice is last minute changes, that will predictably happen: a sponsor withdraws, is substituted with a different one… those things.

The design revolved around two elements: the ribbon and the color pink, which symbolize the struggle against breast cancer. Generally speaking, we employed fluid visual elements and details which suggested a feminine feel, and a very informal typography, all to give a message of celebration of life and hope which, in the end, is the motto of events like this one.

The event itself took place in the Mediterráneo Mall in Almería, the 19th of October, 2007. Lots of people showed up for it and it was covered by the local media.

We hope to have another chance to do pro bono work in the future, and we do appreciate the words of gratitude sent by the chair of the province board of the AECC of Almería and the staff of the association with whom we collaborated.
